Our family loves the mountains! We love river walking in mountain streams so cold from snow run off that you can barely stand it. We love chance encounters with moose and mountain goats. We love mountain picnics when the smell of pine and cedar mix with campfires and everything seems right.

So, it would seem that our road trip through Montana, pit stopping at Potter's Field Ranch near Glacier National Park, and then on to Wyoming to camp with dear friends, Kristin and Jason, finally ending in Denver to spend time with Chris' family would be the ideal Bruno vacation.

I can't complain. It came near well close. But I will admit that we underestimated the drive to Colorado and back. 6 days in the car and the view wasn't always big blue skies and mountain tops! Wow! We've got deserts! And my bag of tricks, goodies (read:crap) from the dollar store, healthy snacks and books on tape just didn't suffice. I'll confess, every day started with the warning, "After that video we're going to listen to a book!" and ended with the kids having watched no less than 5 movies. Every day started with the offer of an apple or carrot strip when munchies ensued and ended with us in line at another McDonald's drive thru for ice cream. And, since I'm being honest, I got extremely cranky in Utah when, having suffered through hours of desert scenery, heat that overloaded our AC, and exit after exit of no coffee shops, we realized that Mormons don't drink coffee. After overnighting in Salt Lake City, we exercised our irritation in passive aggressive behavior.
