Last week is a blur.
But somewhere in the mess, 4 of us started school! Aidan is in 3rd grade, Ella started Kindergarten, Chris began his second year at MHGS and I began an MA at Northwest University.
So, um, yeah... haven't mentioned that yet, have I?
It was rather a last minute thing. In July, I scheduled a meeting with the department of Global Studies to discuss partnering with Mars Hill and sending students to some of their counseling sites overseas that deal with aftercare for sex trafficked victims. (Whew! One of my classes is in the APA writing style and the main point is that shorter sentences are better! I took the practice test and scored below 50% so I have a lot to learn!)
Anyways, turns out I know the Director of the program from Turkey and the other Director was former CCC staff. Tons in common and it was really fun. I had already looked into the MA in International Care and Community Development as a potential option for NEXT year, but the more they explained about the "doability" of the program the more excited I became. Chris and I decided what's the difference in this year and next? I'm going to be a Mom of small kids for 10 more years so whenever I do this it's going to be challenging.
This we know- just before leaving Turkey we felt God saying "there's more in Seattle than just Mars Hill Grad School." That really freed us up to give ourselves fully to our church and freed me up to listen to his voice last year and rediscover some of the ways God has gifted me. The fact that in a neighboring suburb is a Christian school that offers a degree in social justice is no mere coincidence. There are many looming question marks (that I see in 3D boxes suspended over a road with Mario Kart cruising underneath and then boom I fall off the edge into another river)... how are we going to juggle this? How are we going to pay for this? Where is all this leading? But at the end of the day, we're certain that we're supposed to trust God and continue forward.
I was just bummed that I didn't have a cool new backpack and lunch box like the kids for my first day!
