1. Yesterday in the car Ella started down the "I'm better than ____ because _____" path and I casually said, "so..." To which she promptly replies, "Mom, you know what it is to make something and you sew and stuff? Like there's sew like that. Then there's when you are trying to make something a competition and you yell "so" because you're mad. And that's not good. There's two kinds. Did you mean sew like sewing something or the other kind of so that's not good?"
2. Recently convicted that it's time to start being firm with 18month old Sophie, I slapped her little wrist today for continuing to grab a book out of my hand. The first time I said, "no touch" Slap. The second time, moments later, "no touch" Slap. The third time, just seconds later, "no touch" Slap and then she stuck out her other hand and grinned ear to ear.
3. Continuing in the new discipline mode, I was describing to Ella a few different time outs we're going to start having. Thinking, Praying, and Chill out. I described each one and then she thought a moment. Then she shoveled the rest of her orange in her mouth and said, "I'm ready for a time out NOW!"

Oh boy, does this sound familiar! My discipline style is different, but the results are basically the same. One day I hollered at Samuel and Jude about something. They stared at me silently for two seconds and then started giggling. Now I try to avoid hollering.
