Seattle's Indian Summer

A year has passed. This month marks the anniversary of our shipment arriving. With the start of school I remember finally having warm clothes to wear and then not needing them! What's with Seattle summers not getting warm until September? The spiders are back, as well as the blackberries. Apparently, if you have to suffer a yard with blackberry bramble you don't appreciate this time of year. In fact, I know of several people who hire goats to come chew the vines down. But for me and the kids, a nice walk down to our park with a bucket in hand is like a treasure hunt.

So, I don't like tart pies. I don't really like pies at all in fact. But I love baking. Here's a great blackberry muffin recipe I found.

3 c whole wheat flour
1 T bkg powder
1/2 t bkg soda
1/2 t salt
1 c sugar, 1/4 c reserved
1 stick butter softened
2 T oil
2 eggs
1 1/2 c plain yogurt

1. Preheat oven to 375. Grease muffin tins.
2. Mix dry ingredients. Mix wet separately. Mix 1 1/2 c blackberries with 1/4 c sugar and 2 T flour.
3. Add wet to dry then slowly stir in berries.
4. Bake till dark brown.

And one more thing. I thought you could store potatoes and onions in a dark dry place? I was so excited to buy a box of them for $2 and store them for the winter. I thought I was being... I don't know... just really smart and on top of things. Was this supposed to happen in that scenario?

Yay for you, Beth!! Good for you for enjoying natures bounty! We love to pick blackberries here at the Hall house too. Your muffins look really yummy! I also
made some this season (gluten free, of course) and the berries were perfect in them. And I have to say that they do make a lovely blackberry pie... If you liked that sort of thing. Happy picking!
